Panaji 3 June: Goa Tourism and Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC), under the Mega Tourism Circuit Development inaugurated the project undertaken for the pathway and illumination from O’Coueiro Circle to Ambrekarnath Temple, Porvorim yesterday. The Inauguration was done at the hands of Shri. Manohar Parrikar,  Hon’ble Raksha Mantri in the distinguished presence of Shri. Laxmikant Parsekar, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Goa, Shri. Dilip Parulekar, Hon’ble Minister of Tourism, Shri.R.K. Srivastava,(IAS), Chief Secretary, Govt. of Goa, Shri. Nilesh Cabral, Hon’ble M.L.A & Chairman, GTDC Ltd.

The Department of Tourism and the GTDC, under the Mega Circuit Development programme has taken up the works of improvement of infrastructure in a phased manner. The Project was taken up in order to provide safer and broader roadway for the vehicles and also provide safe footpath along the road as there were heavy vehicular traffic led to accidents many of which were fatal.

The CHOGM road leading to touristically important sites of Calangute and Baga was also narrow and ridden with heavy traffic due to which the pedestrians and the tourists were facing hardship for crossing and walking on roads.

GTDC has implemented the project in 3 phases at a cost of Rs. 2168 Lakhs which are as under:

The construction of pathway from O’ Coqueiro Circle to Amrekarnath Temple along with  Underground caballing and Installation of transformers and shifting of HT< lines. Beautification of Saligao Road and Pathway including construction of Traffic Island and Road side beautification of Saligao- Mapusa Road has also been implemented.

The Details on the Construction of pathway from O’ Coqueiro Circle to Amrekarnath Temple are as below.

The length of 1400mtrs from O’Coqueiro Circle has been taken up for improvement. The road width from existing 7.5 mtrs has been increased to 16 mtrs to facilitate two way traffic.The footpath of 2 mtrs width has been provided all along the road for a length of 1400mtrs.Also  footpath provisions have been made for laying of service lines such as electricity cable, telephone and all such other services. Below the footpath provision has been made for laying of underground 11/33 KV cables along with provision for drainage. All the overhead electrical lines have been converted into underground electrical lines including HT<.

The transformers have been upgraded and shifted away from the road area. Complete footpath for a length of 1400 mtrs has been illuminated with LED lamps including the main road.The footpaths are properly barricaded with steel fenders wherever required for safety of pedestrians.

The Cost of the Project is Rs. 672 Lakhs. The Agency hired for the Project is Bagkiya Constructions Pvt Ltd- Porvorim and the PMC is the Lotus Environments-Pune.The implementing agency for the Project is the Project Cell.GTDC. The work was started on the  3/2/2014 and was completed on 9/5/2015 .
