According to the news reported by the IANS, Police Sub Inspector Gaurish Malik, earlier attached to Panaji police station and recently transferred to Pernem, has shot himself in the chest in his own private car, near Maharastra – Goa border around 30km from Panaji on Sunday morning. The incident came into the light when his car reached the Satrade checkpoint where he apparently shouted to ‘call the ambulance’ it is confirmed that his service pistol was used in this incident.

After the incident, he was immediately shifted to the district hospital in Pernem by 180 ambulance service but doctors advised to move him to GMC and accordingly he had been rushed to GMC with the serious injuries in the chest and treatment are underway on him. Superintendent of police Umesh Gaonkar has confirmed that “Gaurish Malik had sustained the chest injuries and doctors have informed that his condition is improving although he has not regained the consciousness as yet”.

According to the report, Malik was recently transferred to Pernem police station from Panaji and he had not reported on the duty yesterday. The sources also revealed that he was seen disturbed for few months while on the work, which could be the result of some personal problems and that he was also missing for few days while he was attached to Panaji police station. Maybe this could lead him to attempt the suicide. Police are also investigating the other angles in this case.

According to the sources, Malik who had joined the Goa Police as a Police constable and he has gone through the further training and passed the exam of Police Sub Inspector and he was the fresh recruit on this post.
