SP crime branch Karthik Kashyap told the media in a press conference at police HQ in Panaji that they got hold of the main culprit on whom they were keeping watch for some time now “Kumar is the main agent, and the prostitution racket was operational in Goa as well in Maharashtra. Kumar was on the radar of the police. It’s a crucial breakthrough and our police team has done a commendable job,” said Kashyap, adding that, “we have seized certain incriminating material which suggests involvement of some more people in the crime.”
He also said that, the main accused had a list of high profile clientele and that he used to facilitate the small time actresses as well as models to his clients. Police laid the trap with the help of decoy customer and while the pimp came to deliver the victim girl to the decoy customer at a location in Bambolim on Thursday night, he was arrested by police.
The sources also revealed that the rate for the deal was finalized as Rs. 50000 for a 23-year-old girl from Mumbai. After the interrogation, Pramod revealed the name of his boss Anand Kumar and his address at Raibandar subsequent to which police took Anand alias Andy in the custody.
Police raided few more places on the basis of the information provided by the arrested accused and rescued few more girls from there. “At another location rented out by Anand we found a woman whom we rescued, and arrested three other traffickers namely Indradev, Santhosh and Ramudesh who acted as security,” Superintendent of Police, said.
In the interrogation of Anand police recovered the statements of accounts providing the details of clients and payments. It also has the payment list of the hospitality sectors where he used to provide the girls to his high profile clients. “On his mobile phone, we also found the names of several famed upcoming Bollywood actresses, along with ‘VIP’ customers,” Mr. Kashyap told the media. However, the official refused to reveal further details of the investigation impending verification of the mobile numbers.
According to the police, Anand was running this business of prostitution for past 4 years and always managed to escape from the police scanner. “He has at least over five cases registered against him in Maharashtra, we are digging up more information on him,” the police officials said. The police have also rounded up few operators of an international chain of ‘star’ hotels in the city after the staff refused to cooperate to reveal their records citing ‘customer privacy’.
This racket is going to reveal much more in the due course of time that might have the names of some of the big starred hotels in and around the capital city.
