Vasco 03rd Feb. 2015 : Police have arrested Pratima Naik, the younger daughter-in-law of deceased Usha Naik, and sister-in-law of deceased Neha Naik, under IPC Section 302 (murder), in the Vasco double murder case. Police sources said the 27-year-old has not confessed to killing Usha and Neha. She has been arrested over contradictions in her statements. As an example, she had told police that the burglars who had committed the murders had blinded her with chilli powder, but her eye test had ruled out any such attack, said sources.

Further, during questioning, she had revealed that six months ago she had drugged Usha and Neha and had stolen Neha’s jewellery which she sold to a jeweller, said sources, adding that police have recovered the jewellery. Senior police officials said Pratima had been the prime witness and prime suspect from the start of the investigation. Pratima, who was discharged from a private hospital on Sunday evening, had been questioned extensively by senior police officials
since then.

Earlier on Monday, women police personnel had kept a constant watch on her as the last rites of Usha and Neha were performed. And at the Vasco police station her parents, sisters, brother-in-law, and friends were questioned, said sources.
