This latest revelation made by the crime branch police yesterday while extending the custody of Babush Monseratte. Police sources told the court that they have already recovered a lot of SMSs that had been exchanged between Babush and third accused Rosy Ferrao. The rape case involves the most powerful man of Taleigao and presently the legislature of St. Cruz constituency. This rape case came to the light when the minor girl was sent into the protection home by police after her stepmother complaint with the police stating that her daughter stole all her jewelry.
The child protection home at Merces where the minor girl was under counseling session disclosed the entire facts to the NGO. Immediately CWC (Child Welfare Committee) intervened into the matter and police complaint was lodged. Although it took almost 7 days for the police to register the FIR against Taleigao strongman Babsuh Monseratte but on 4th May, the wheels of an investigation started moving.

On the 12th May police produced the main accused Babush Monseratte and victim’s stepmother for further remand. On this occasion police submitted before the court that they have found the clinching evidence against the Babush and third accused Rosy in the form of SMS. Police also told the court that the SMSs Babush and Rosy had exchanged the messages pertaining to the victim girl and her mother. In the SMS, they were inquiring about the migration of victim and her mother back to their native place.
All the SMSs have been exchanged during the month of April, few weeks after the alleged rape of 16-year-old girl took place claimed the sources. This was revealed from the transcripts of the messages extracted from the clone copy of the mobile phone of accused Ferros. According to the information, the clone copy of the mobile phone was obtained using the mobile forensic tools at the Cyber Crime police lab, Ribandar.

The forensic science has done so much progress that today even deleted SMSs are possible to retrieve. According to the sources, “with tools like Cellebrite’s forensic computer, law enforcement can simply plug in a phone and download the device’s memory to a flash drive in a matter of seconds. Passwords make the job take a bit longer, but forensic computers can crack codes or bypass them relatively quickly.”
Police demanded the custody of Babush as well victim’s mother to ascertain the facts revealed in the SMSs by way of their custodial interrogation. Police claimed that it is clearly evident that both the accused Rosy as well as Babush were concerned with the development relating to the victim and her mother, who is the second accused in the case. There are a number of such SMSs in which victim and her mother have been mentioned. Police claimed that it will be much clearer as to what these messages meant only after both the accused are interrogated thoroughly.

Once the more information is surfaced by police, the case will go to the next level with the filing of the charge sheet and getting the case on the floor for trial.
