Although the fishermen were protesting since Wednesday but the situation turned bit tensed on Thursday when the fisheries director Sharmila Monteiro was confronted by the agitators while she was leaving the state fisheries department office. The protestors demanded an explanation from her in a harsh manner about her failure to resolve the issue.

When police saw the is situation is going out of control they started handling the situation with little stiffness by pushing the protestors away from the way of the fisheries director. According to the sources, nearly twenty protestors were arrested by the police.

The joint secretary of Goencho Ramponkaracho Ekvott told the media that police arrested them instead of taking the action against the violators. “The police have arrested us instead of the real violators. They’ve taken action against the poor,” said a joint secretary, Goencho Ramporkarancho Ekvott, Olencio Simoes.
