As said earlier that more skeletons will be elevated in the Louis Berger case and scope of it goes beyond the imagination of common man now. Goa Police Crime Branch and Enforcement Directorate making it sure that nothing will be missed out from their scanner and nobody will be able to escape from the cover of law. Following the raids at the residences & offices of former chief minister Digamber Kamat ED has now turned their focus on the ‘KINS’ of Kamat and accordingly they searched all the places belonging to his relatives and associates and the efforts of ED did not went waste, according to the available information ED managed to get hold of unaccounted assets from the custody of his Brother-in-Law, who also considered to be “Brother-in-Arms” known as “Pinky Bab”.

Based on the news published by various media in the local as well as national news channels the ED (Enforcement Directorate) has continued their search operations and managed to recover the unaccounted assets of more than 100 crore out of it. Alone from the bank lockers of Pinky Bab they recovered the foreign currency worth around 8.49 Lakh, based on the information provided by the sources from ED the foreign currencies include, US dollars, pound sterling, Euros, Hong Kong dollars, Sri Lankan rupees and Indonesian rupiah

The personality of Pinky Bab (Gaurish Lawande) as described by some news channels is highly polite and soft spoken gentlemen who could manage to win over everybody with his charm and etiquette. “Meet the ever smiling soft spoken brother-in-law of Digambar Kamat, who was the man for all seasons in the Kamat rule” (Heraldo). He is the owner of multiple business establishments to his credits like La-Capitol Hotel, Café Coffee Day and few construction outlets and shops in the capital city. In fact the café coffee day is also known as “deal making place’ in the town.

While Digamber Kamat was in power Pinky Bab was considered to be holding the parallel power center but unlike other power centers in Kamat’s rule Pinky Bab would do his business very quietly without being in your face. It was considered then that from project advice to recruitments, the refrain was that if “Pinky bab” was with you; all projects would get a green signal. However, he has never been charged for any financial irregularities or been a subject of any criminal investigation but with the Crime Branch and the Enforcement Directorate striking deep, the actions of the Digambar years will be put to scrutiny. It was only at the end of the Kamat rule that Pinky Bab started getting into the controversies surrounded by massive conversion of land during the run-up to the now scrapped Regional Plan of 2011. And the word was that if the brother-in-law was on your side, “work” would get done.

The search was carried out in the view of the probe underway in the Louis Berger case in which Kamat is the main accused. On August 7, ED had registered an enforcement case information report (ECIR) against ministers in the 2010-Goa government, Louis Berger International Inc, and others to investigate the financial angle in the bribery case. Sources at Crime Branch said that the links in the JICA bribery investigation have reached the doorstep of Gourish (Pinky) Lawande. CB SP Karthik Kahyap said, “Everybody is within the ambit of the investigations. Investigation might have reached him.”

As the search keeps going deep down all the roots connected to the huge tree “Kamat” everything will get exposed and there is no escape from it as they are attached to the main tree and cannot be separated. Only the time will be able to tell as where this investigation will lead to and who else will be roped into it in the future.
