The recent peaceful protest in Panaji by supporters of Fr. Bismarck has created the sensation in the state with videos of arrests and police behaviors gone viral on the social media.
According to the Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar, people of Goa, specifically the agitators and supports of Fr. Bismarck had launched the movement in the state for the impartial probe into the death of the Catholic priest and social activist, are using the social media to defame the state of Goa. Parsekar said that the people who are seeking the justice for Fr. Bismarck, are using the platforms, such as, ongoing International Film Festival of India (IFFI) and ISL (Indian Super League to malign the image of Goa and it is not good.
Parsekar said that this is the festival of an international level and raising such an issue at this juncture creates the national and international news and such acts leads to spoiling the image of the state. “People should think before acting. I am supporting the probe of Fr. Bismarck but breaking the barriers of section 144 laid down in the magistrate and using the social media to gather the crowd is not correct,” he said.
Parsekar was referring to the peaceful protest that took place on Saturday 21st November at Panaji near ferry Wharf in which more than 150 people including the senior citizens took part and later abused and manhandled by the Panaji police. This incident took place just a few hundred meters away from the IFFI venue.
The videos of arrests and manhandling of the mob by the police has gone viral on the internet since Saturday. Parsekar alleged that the protestors were intending to create the international sensation and they are also planning to target the ISL venue. “They are in the process of doing the same at the ISL football match as they are very well aware that it would create an international sensation,” said Parsekar.
Parsekar claimed that he is very much by the side of supporters of Fr. Bismarck and he have already instructed the Goa Police and crime branch to investigate the matter from the all the angles.
People are protesting for the justice to the late Fr. Bismarck while police are doing their job and following the instruction given by the home department and in bargain many innocent people are getting hurt. Was the nasty behavior of Goa Police displayed on November 21st was justifiable? Who is responsible for the act? Does CM keep on claiming the full support towards the investigation of the probe into the death of the priest, then why people do not wait till that happens? The imposition of section 144 was necessary on 21st November? Is government got scared of the protestors? Please do leave your comments and suggestions on this issue.
