Here is the information about the new scheme recommended by the Goa government for the resident of Goa and for those who had been dwelling in the state for more than 5 years. According to the available information, deputy CM of Goa Francis D’souza told the media that those who are staying in Goa for more than years and are having the valid Aadhar cards or any other proof of identity which confirms their dwelling in the state for past 5 years, will be eligible for the free health insurance scheme.
The insurance scheme is implemented under the ‘Deen Dayal Swasthya Seva Yojana’ (DDSSY) bringing the migrants staying in the state under the ambit of the scheme. “It is a scheme unique to Goa. Many people are reluctant to go to government hospitals for treatment. They prefer to go to private hospitals and thereby incur huge expenses. They also borrow money at times to meet the costs of healthcare. This scheme will address all these concerns,” D’souza said.
He also urged to all Goans to get the DDSSY card. He was speaking with the media on the sidelines of the scheme’s launch at the Candolim primary health center. Calangute MLA Michael Lobo, zilla panchayat member Shawn Martins, Candolim PHC health officer Brenda Pinto and sarpanch Sandra Fialho were also present at the event.
Presently inaugurated health center has the scheme of DDSSY and people of Goa can avail of the same, he said. “The center for the DDSSY scheme which we have inaugurated now has two centers, while most other talukas have only one centre,” he said.
Mr. D’souza gave the convincing explanation for including the migrants into this scheme stating that, “People say migrants should not be given benefits of this scheme as they are non-Goans. But the fact is that Goans have a delicate constitution and when migrants come to Goa, some bring along with them vector-borne diseases which then affect Goans. So when it comes to health we should not withhold medical facilities from migrants,” he said, adding, “Anybody who has stayed in Goa for five years is considered to be a Goan for this scheme.”
The inauguration of the health center was done in the presence of Parra sarpanch Delilah Lobo, Arpora-Nagoa sarpanch Mahima Korgaonkar, Goa Electronics Limited (GEL) chairman Dattaprasad Naik, and others were also present. The DDSSY cards are manufactured by GEL said the sources.
The above scheme looks like made for the migrants more than the Goans as according to the deputy CM those migrants are contributing a lot to the state of Goa.
