The statements made by politicians always tend to create some controversy. One such shocking declaration made by Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar on Friday can give you a clear picture of how the state chief minister is trying to tackle one of the major state’s issues. [su_expand more_text=”READ MORE” less_text=” ” height=”0″ hide_less=”yes” link_style=”button” link_align=”center”] This is what Parsekar told media persons when asked whether the government has allowed any new offshore casinos in River Mandovi, “Someone had said that I was compelled to marry a pregnant woman and we have to take care of the child. So now what to do? We have to take care of this mess.”

Adding to his statement Parsekar said “No new casinos are allowed. BJP government has not given any new casino license. We have to handle the old casinos.”

Chief Minister also made it clear that the culture of offshore casinos was brought in by the government in 1994 and 1999 when BJP was not in power. He said, “They (former government) have created the mess and now we are being criticized by the same people.”

Explaining the current situation Parsekar said, “We are trying our level best to shift the casino vessels out of River Mandovi. Even while giving extension by one year for the vessels to move out from the river, we have said one year or till we find an alternative place, whichever is earlier.”

Responding to the question asked, Parsekar said it is the government’s responsibility to take care of everyone along with the investors. He said, “We can’t discard investors because some other government had invited them. We have to provide them healthy atmosphere. Currently, we go around attracting investors and hence if we disturb old investors that will send a wrong signal. ”

As said by the Chief Minister alternative means of investment and revenue is essential without which government cannot disturb the existing investment. He also supported his statement saying there is 2,000 youth working on various offshore casinos and closure of these vessels will affect their livelihood.

Casino issue currently is only getting the statements and comments from government and people. There is no way out for the topic and no proper conclusion to the statements made by various people along with its opponents. But we can believe that the statement made by the chief Minister can actually spark a major controversy.
