Sometimes miscalculations and overconfidence cost a life, and something similar seems to have happened in this case too. According to the sources, a group of picnicker from Mandrem was on their way to Saleli waterfall situated in Valpoi. The Jeep driver apparently decided to go for an offloading adventure, and in his overconfidence, he took the Jeep on a narrow mud road which resulted in something none of the occupants had ever imagined in their wildest of dreams.

According to the Valpoi police, a group of youth from Pernem was on their way to Saleli waterfall on an adventure trip, in a jeep, bearing registration number, GA 11 A 8105. But suddenly driver decided to go offloading adventure, and took the jeep on a very narrow mud road, not realizing that the edges of the road have become weak due to the rain, and that resulted into skidding of a jeep and falling down in the rivulet almost 30 meter deep.

The sources said that the jeep had around seven occupants in it when an accident took place. The accident turned fatal to the 18-year-old Aanush Barde who succumb to the injuries while on the way to the hospital. Another one was critically injured in this accident while remaining five received serious injuries.

THE JEEP FELL 30 METER DEEP IN THE VALLEY

All the youth belonged to Mandrem village in Pernem, said the sources. The people who receive injured include, Rajat Harmalkar (23) Mandrem, Amit Gadkar (28) Mandrem, Kishor Parsekar and (40) Mandrem. All the injured people were admitted into the GMC.

“The muddy road was narrow and it was not used for vehicular traffic. The jeep fell from a height into a ravine due to which one of the occupants of the vehicle Anush Barde (18), a resident of Jonuswada, Mandrem, sustained injuries and succumbed to the same,” said police inspector Pednekar. He said Kishore Parsekar, who was critically injured, has been admitted to the Goa Medical College and Hospital at Bambolim.

The police sources have also confirmed that the group members were under the influence of alcohol when the accident took place, and they were on their way to the source of the waterfall which goes through the rocky terrain and it is highly dangerous.

The sources have also revealed that, since the carrying of the liquor has been banned in these tourist interest places, people now prefer to travel after consuming it.

THE JEEP WAS COMPLETELY CRUSHED IN THE ACCIDENT

This place is very famous amongst the tourist as well in locals and during the Monsoon it remains a major attraction. Many locals at these locations complain that tourists under the influence of alcohol drive rashly. Alcohol consumption by drivers puts pedestrians and riders of two-wheelers at risk. Locals have urged the traffic police to detect these drunk drivers by using breath analyzer so that such incidents can be controlled.

There is no doubt that one has to be alert enough while driving as that person put the lives of every person at risk in the event of an accident. Hope that the incident of Saleli will never be repeated and this article will serve as the guideline all those who are planning such type of adventure trips.
