But now the things are changing and Government has taken an initiative to make the registration of new vehicles and application for the new license online. The rampant growth of the vehicles (two and four wheelers) in the state of Goa is visible evidence of a number of people needs the services of registration of new vehicles and making their licenses (either new of renewals). Once you go to the RTO office anywhere in Goa the entire scenario is depressing. The long queue and amount of formalities make your life miserable and you end up paying the touts for getting your job done.

But now the new development that is taking place in the state will change this scenario and you will be able to register your new vehicles and apply for the driving license right from the comfort of your home. Yes, you hear this right. According to the sources, In the near future, Goans will be able to register their vehicles and apply for licenses from the comfort of their homes as the state government is working on adopting the Union ministry’s online system, the citizen-centric application Vahan 4.0 and Sarathi 4.0 aimed at simplifying the issuance process and going digital.

The sources have further said that these facilities are already functional across 85 Transport Offices in the country and 235 RTO offices under Sarathi 4.0 have been brought to the centralized system which includes the state of Goa. The sources revealed that it will be the pure APP based platform Both these applications are upgradations of the existing systems – Vahan 2.0 and Sarathi 2.0 – at the state department’s RTOs.

The task of software deployment and standardization has been entrusted by the Union Ministry with the NIC (National Informatics Centre) The Vahan will be used for the vehicle registration and Sarathi for driving licenses and compilation of data – in both the state and national register, said the sources.

The applications were, however, only used at the office level by transport officials. The upgraded version 4.0 will be open to public domain. It will link the department with vehicle dealers and citizens wishing to apply to RTOs for various purposes. “With the help of this software, the database of Goa can be viewed at the central server in Delhi. The ministry of road transport and highways is thus going to monitor the state’s transport activities from the center,” a transport official told TOI.
