CORRUPTION IS A POISON WHICH HAS BEEN SPREAD IN THE MINDS OF PEOPLE OF THE SOCIETY, COMMUNITY, AND COUNTRY. IT IS THE MISUSE OF PUBLIC RESOURCES FOR GETTING SOME UNFAIR ADVANTAGES TO FULFILL THEIR LITTLE WISHES. IT IS CONCERNED WITH THE UNNECESSARY, AND WRONG USE OF BOTH POWER AND POSITION BY ANYONE, WHETHER IN THE GOVERNMENT OR NON-GOVERNMENT ORGANIZATION. IN ONE SUCH CASE WHEN THE VICTIM RAISED HIS VOICE ON THE INJUSTICE, HE IS BEING THREATENED BY THE AFFECTED AUTHORITIES.

It has been a couple of weeks since the Nigerian Embassy through the Union Ministry of External Affairs requested Goa Government to investigate the bribery charges leveled by a Nigerian national Ebony Ibe Chuks against Superintendent of Police (ATS) and IPS officer Devesh Mahla, Chuks has now expressed fear of threat to his life.

Police had arrested Chuks in 2007 for allegedly peddling drugs. Chuks is presently facing trial. In June this year; a team led by SP Mahla detains Chuks. However, Chuks secured bail In July. Chuks lodged a complaint accusing SP Mahla of accepting a bribe of Rs one lakh

Taking a note, the Nigerian embassy forwards a request to the Goa Police to investigate In the complaint submitted to Panaji Police on September 15, Chuks, who has accused SP Mahla of demanding and accepting bribe has voiced the fear that the police might plant drugs on him and arrest.

Police corruption consists of many types ranging from Brutality which is excessive force on an individual either emotional or physical by a police officer(s) to Bribery which is a police officer who is using his financial or political means to gain an advantage. These different types of corruption have a profound effect, not only on the officer(s) in question but also the victim. Brutality causes the victim not only physical but emotional trauma and distrust in our legal system as far as for the police officer(s) involved both brutality and bribery could cause them to lose their job and also the credibility of the precinct they are connected with.

The corruption has seeped its way into the system and is seen to be very hard to get rid of, despite all the efforts the threat to life still remains as they are in power, and they continue to prey on the week.

What do you think about this case? What can be done to eliminate the issue of corruption from the system? Leave your valuable comment.
