The work of new Mandovi Bridge is going on in full swing for the government who is running out of funds for quite long time this is a good benchmark as the work of Miramar road which is pending for more than two years is heard due to lack of funds is major issue in the town. Leaving all the other major development which our Panaji city needs at the moment our government is running after completing the third bridge on the river Mandovi which is always an excess baggage on government exchequer.

Recently the GSIDC (Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation) chairman Dr. Pramod Sawant held a meeting with the L&T officials along with the agency and contractors to review the progress of the new Mandovi bridge which is under construction. Panaji MLA and vice chairman of GSIDC Siddharth Kunkolienkar has also attended the meeting. During the meeting, project manager L&T Arvind Nerurkar put forward the details of the progress of the bridge work. He also furnished the details of the various technical aspects of the project, the overall progress of physical completion which has reached to 30% according to him. The Chief General manager GSIDC Subhash Nege expressed the hope of completion of the bridge by 2017. “It will be thrown open for the public vehicular traffic on the republic day that is January 26th 2017” he said.

The staff, project engineers and other dignitaries of GSIDC & L&T visited the construction site after the meeting to inspect the ongoing work of the bridge. It is now confirmed that the bridge will be commissioned by 2017 which is one of the huge project for Goa at the moment, but the question is how it will benefit the common men who is waiting to have good roads around the city, who needs the proper parking facility in the town and who needs the good infrastructure during the monsoon where electricity runs out every time the rain starts.

None of the roads in the city is worth driving a two wheeler or even a car for that matter. The major road connecting Panaji to Dona Paula via Miramar has excavated for past 2 years creating major traffic hazard in that area. Taleigao roads are waiting for the major repairs for more than 3 years now. What is that our government is upto? Why the government is taking up the projects which are not so necessary while neglecting the important work in the city? Please do leave your comments and suggestions for our government and we will surely make sure to share that with the concerned authorities.
