He had also planned the murder and it was not an accident as mentioned by him earlier. When she opened the door, he entered Ghurde’s flat forcibly and held her at knifepoint. When she was about to shout, Singh overpowered her and covered her mouth with his hand and took her inside the bathroom. Ghurde became nervous and went into a semi-conscious state. Singh revealed that he tied her to the bed, binding both her hands and legs. After ensuring that she was helpless, he demanded money.

Ghurde asked him to take money from the purse. Singh found Rs 4000 in her purse and demanded more money than Ghurde gave him the ATM card and the PIN. Later, Singh took her cell phone to prevent her from alerting anyone and forced her to give him the cell phone’s password. “Once he got the password, he forced her to watch three porn clips,” the DIG said. Adding to that he also said that Singh tortured and raped Ghurde multiple times through the night before strangling her to death. After smothering her with a pillow, Singh also reportedly shaved in the house, providing the necessary proof through DNA analysis, to police.

Gupta said that the accused arrived in Goa on 5th April in search of a job and was employed as a security guard in the complex. He first met Ghurde on 7th June when she asked him for vacant flats as she was looking out for an apartment. “The accused was attracted to Monika since the day she inquired about the availability of flats in the complex and later followed her movements when she started residing there. After his duty, he would wash cars of the residents including that of Monika.” Said Vimal Gupta.

Gupta, who interrogated Singh at Saligao police station in presence of Superintendent of Police (North) Umesh Gaonkar, said the accused developed grudge against Ghurde after he was sacked from the job on 22 July after being accused of stealing her umbrella. “The security agency, which had employed him, kept on hold his two months’ salary amounting to Rs 22, 000,” the IPS officer said. He was then employed as a laborer in Ponda. He visited Ghurde twice to withdraw her complaint. He then left Goa only to return for revenge.

Several members of the residence had complained against Singh however he blamed Ghurde for his dismissal. “We will add section 376 (rape) IPC to the case,” Gupta said.
