The ossification test determines the age of a person based on the process of formation of new bone by cells called osteoblasts. According to the medical analysis report, by the age of 25 years, nearly all bones are completely ossified in humans. Although the report says that, it is a guesswork based on the fusion of joints in the human body that takes place from the time of birth and there is a strong possibility of an error of about 2 years in the age determined by the ossification test.

According to the police sources, the victim girl needs to undergo the age determination test since they have found her two certificates that display the different date of birth. “The bone test is necessary because of her two certificates with different dates of birth,” the police official familiar with the probe told the media.

The sources have also told the media that, they are doing these tests to make sure that at the time of trial this point is not taken for the advantage of the accused. “The test will remove any doubt the accused can raise at the trial stage,” the official said.

However, the police sources made it clear that according to both certificates the victim was minor when the alleged incident of rape took place in the month of March.

Monseratte, the Member of Goa Legislative Assembly had accused by the victim girl of buying her for Rs. 50 lakh and repeatedly raping her on various occasions. The stepmother of victim girl and an alleged pimp who had facilitated the deal are in police custody at the moment.
