Goa is one of the major tourism destination, and tourists from all over the world flock to the land of sun, sea, and siesta, to spend some quality time with their loved ones. The tourism business is also considered as the major source of income for the Goans. All the businesses in the state are mainly dependent on the tourism but the recent cases of rapes, murders, and attacks on the tourists have amounted into bringing some real bad name to this state at the national and international level.

The recent case of the rape and murder of Irish National Danielle McLaughlin, which showed the involvement of a local history-sheeter, has amounted into bringing the bad name to the state on international level with most of the mainstream national and international media constantly writing about the case, and now the attack on the domestic tourists by the gang of local history sheeter once again brought the matter into the limelight.

It looks like finally the chief minister of Goa has taken the serious cognisance of the matter, and issued an orders to the Goa police, to crack down on the history-sheeters in the state, and warn the concern police inspectors about the consequences, if their area, in which they perform, shows any criminal activities, then they will not be spared.

THE ATTACKERS DID NOT SPARE THE WOMEN AND CHILDREN TOO

Although the decision of the CM of Goa in regards to the stringent action against the anti-social elements in the state have come little late but it is ‘better late than never’ According to the sources, the chief minister Mr. Manohar Parrikar had told the Goa police to prepare the list of the history sheeter of Goa. “To get the investment coming to the state and to run the tourism business in Goa, there is a need of maintaining the law and order situation in the state,” said Parrikar adding that whatever happened in the Merces is not the positive event. “I have ordered the police to crack down on the history-sheeters of Goa and if such event gets repeated, I will hold the concern PI (Police Inspector) responsible.”

According to Mr. Parrikar, the Goons don’t have a place in the society. “The best place for the goons is Colvale Jail which we have built only for them. They should land there,” he said pointing out at the police who takes such matters causally. “The Police force needs to become tough.”

THE WEAPONS USED IN THE ATTACK

People of Goa have also taken the serious note of the violence that took place at Merces, and none of the real Goan is in favor of the Gundagiri in the state. There is a wide wrath on the social media about the attack on the tourists including the ladies and children. People are not with the anti-social elements and they want these goons to get punished.

Meanwhile, the Goa police have applied for the cancellation of the bail issued to all the history-sheeters involved into the attack on the tourists. According to the sources, Goa police has arrested three people out of four in this case, and all three are out on the bail in several other crimes.

The main accused Lawrence Dias is a rapist and he was out on the bail. The second accused, Vishal Golatkar is a criminal involved in kidnapping, attempt to murder and robbery is also out on the bail, and the third accused Suraj Shetye, is a well-known history-sheeter from Merces, and he is also out on the bail. Presently, all these goons are in the police custody, and once their bail gets canceled, they will be sent to the Colvale jail, said the sources.

THE ATTACKERS WERE FINALLY HAMMERED BY THE TOURISTS TAKING TREATMENT IN GMC

It is true that the casual approach of Goa Police, and the deeply rooted corruption, allows the crime to flourish. The criminals move around scot-free, without any fear of police, and the law and order. Unless this trend is changed, the crime rate will not go down in the state. The recent decision of the CM will surely lead to curb the crime in the state or will it? Only the time will tell. What do you think? Will the crime rate under the present government go down in the state? Please leave your honest comments on this serious issue.
