According to police, on Monday, Setta proposed marriage to Khatun which she refused. Angered by the refusal, Setta allegedly stabbed Khatun with a knife and tried to escape. “But Setta got injured when he broke a glass door in the house to escape. House owner Goswami chased Setta and apprehended him. In the scuffle, Goswami got injured while Setta managed to escape from the area. However, he took an auto rickshaw and got himself admitted into the civil hospital,” said police.

According to the information available, a primary probe said that Khautan was killed because she refused to accept Setta’s marriage proposal. A Police inspector S N Gadu, at Thorala, said that “Setta had been visiting Khatun since last one-and-half year and was in in love with her,”

Khautan was living in a rented house since last four years and was allegedly operating as a sex worker.
