Panjim, May 22: Goa is all set for the pulsating moment and thrilling experience as the first Amphibian Seaplane lands in its State’s river waters on Saturday morning. The 9-seater Seaplane for joy rides to be launched in Goa in the coming tourism season will take its maiden test flight from Goa airport, Dabolim and land in River Mondovi.
This mega event, the first for Goa, will be witnessed by Shri Dilip Parulekar, Hon’ble Tourism Minister Shri. Nilesh Cabral, Chairman of Goa Tourism Development Corporation, tourism officials Govt. of Goa and a host of dignitaries.
Goa is the second State after Maharashtra where the Amphibian Seaplane will be launched. Commercial operations will begin in September 2015 and several routes will be identified for the same in consultation with Fisheries Department, Captain of Ports and Goa Coastal Police to ensure that the operations do not affect the marine eco-system, fishing activities, inland water transportation and water sports operations. The sectors thereafter be finalized .
Goa Tourism had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Maritime Energy Heli AIR Services Pvt. Ltd. (MEHAIR) to launch Seaplane services in Goa. The amphibian aircraft services will be owned and operated by Mehair Pvt. Ltd. with support from Goa Tourism and Govt. of Goa.
After landing in River Mandovi, the Seaplane will also take a short round around 10.30 am to 11.oo am to Miramar, Chapora River, Coco beach and fly back to the Goa airport at Dabolim. Goa Tourism is expecting thousands of tourists and locals to witness this breathtaking milestone event.
