The Goa Carnaval is synonymous with colour, celebrations and festivities; and this year’s edition promises to be even more exciting than before. Jointly organized by the Department of Tourism and Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC), plans have already been put into action for the fun-filled four day event commencing on February 14, 2015. The inaugural edition of the annual parade will be held in the capital city of Panjum. The other parades have been scheduled in Margao on February 15, Vasco, Curchorem and Shiroda on February 16 and Mapusa and Ponda on February 17.
M/s Advertising Associates has been selected as the Event Management Agency (EMA) for managing and co-ordinating the float parades. The lead float which will host the impressive entourage of King Momo will be prepared by the EMA and will participate in the float parades at Panjim, Margao, Vasco and Mapusa. The Carnaval float parade led by King Momo will be in attendance only in the four major cities of Panjim, Margao, Vasco and Mapusa. The tourism ministry has emphasized that this year floats participating in the parade should thrust on themes revolving around socio-cultural, environment and tourism related aspects.
The tourism department is also constituting a committee to formulate guidelines that will ensure participation of quality floats at the Carnaval parade. A screening committee will also be constituted to eliminate floats that do not conform with the guidelines chalked out for participating tableaus.
The tourism department and the GTDC along with the committees will meet again on Saturday, January 17, 2015 to finalize float parade routes and programmes. Due to the election code of conduct which has come into force in view of the Panjim by-polls, the Carnaval celebrations in Panjim will be conducted under the Chairmanship of the Commissioner of the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP).
