The road fatality is growing in the state of Goa with mainly the youngsters getting involved in the road accidents. The main reason behind all the accidents has remained the road rash but still the mindsets of the youngsters do not seem to be changing. This incident is yet another example of a road rash wherein two 15-year-old students riding the bike met with an accident at Ponda wherein one of them came under the wheels of the concrete mix truck and lost his life. According to the sources, an accident took place on Thursday afternoon at Khandepar in Ponda when the 15-year-old, Heramb Tilve, who was riding the pinion on the scooter ridden by another teenager who is also said to be the 15-year-old boy, died after the scooterist lost the control and rammed into the oncoming concrete mixer truck. The pillion came under the rear wheels of the truck, said the sources.
The accident was very severe wherein the head of the boy was completely got crushed under the real wheels of the truck. The rider Jolieter Fernandes, resident of Ponda has miraculously escaped with the minor injuries in this deadly accident, said the sources. According to the sources, Jolister Fernandes was riding the bike borrowed from one of his friends with the deceased when it met with an accident.
According to the police sources, the duo was on the joy ride on one of their friend’s bike at around 4.45pm when the incident occurred. The sources said that both were proceeding towards the Khandpar from Ponda along the Belgaum – Ponda highway when the scooter rammed into the truck.
According to the sources, When the duo reached near Keriya-Khandepar, their scooter dashed against oncoming concrete mixer truck and Heramb came under the wheels of the truck and died on the spot while rider of the scooter sustained minor injuries. Another motorcycle rider also proceeding towards Khandepar via Ponda lost control over the vehicle and had a fall. The rider Vishnu Shinde sustained minor injuries.
The driver of the truck had managed to make good his escape from the accident spot to avoid the rage of the people. According to the sources, the two boys were the students of class X of A J De Almeida High School in Ponda and both were attending the tuitions at the nearby institute. While they were at the tuition they borrowed the bike of one of their friends to go for the joy ride which finally cost life to one of them.
The body of the deceased was shifted to the mortuary of Goa Medical College and Hospital Bambolim. While both the injured persons were admitted in the sub-district hospital, Ponda and later discharged after treatment. Further investigation is underway, informed Ponda police.
