It falls from a height of 253 m which is the second-highest plunge falls in India. The Jog Falls in fact counts among the world’s 10 best for sheer magnitude.

The history of the falls goes back to the year 1800, when the site was first discovered by Buchanan during one his journeys. It is one of the main tourist attractions of karnataka. The significance of Jog Falls is that in this waterfall, the water does not stream down the rocks in a tiered fashion. On the contrary, the water thunders down the slope losing contact with the rocks, thus making Jog Falls the tallest untiered waterfall in the country. The area around the fall is excellent for trekking. The best season to visit this waterfall is the monsoons when this gigantic body displays its maximum magnetism. Though one will find dense vapor engulfing the waterfall, but when the mighty water falls the vapor is evaporated in an ethereal manner.  An astonishing 3.4 million liters of water per second is discharged from a height of 829 feet, which is 40 per cent more than the average flow at Niagara. So its sheer height stands testament to the force with which the torrent hits the rock face and crashed down. The jog falls is at its peak at this season.
