IN A COUNTRY WHERE WOMEN ARE SEEN AS GODDESSES, FEMALE FOETICIDE AND ABANDONING OF GIRL CHILD AT BIRTH COMES AS IRONY. IT IS ALMOST PATHETIC THAT PEOPLE NEED INITIATIVES AND GOVERNMENT PROGRAMMES TO BE TOLD THAT A GIRL CHILD IS AS IMPORTANT AS A BOY. IN YET ANOTHER DISAPPOINTING CASE SOMEONE ABANDONED A NEWBORN BABY GIRL IN CURTORIM.
It doesn’t come as a surprise that a girl child was abandoned but what is more disturbing is the fact that the parents did not even have a human decency to hand over the child to an orphanage to at least give it a chance at life.
But as cruel as it gets on Tuesday when a passerby noticed an infant abandoned on the roadside at Mugalli, Curtorim he then soon informed the police.
The baby was immediately taken into care and was admitted to Hospicio in Margao. Hospital sources said that the baby is safe and her condition stable. She is undergoing treatment in the neonatal ICU of the hospital.
Maina Curtorim police have booked an offense against the unknown parents of the baby for abandoning the newborn and putting her life at risk. Investigations into the case are underway under the supervision of PI Gurudas Gawde.
For all the campaigning done towards Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Abhiyan, the girl child in this country still suffers from some being killed even before they enter the world while some suffer every day of their existence. A female is a lot of things a mother, daughter, wife, girlfriend etc. but before all of this, she’s a human who has the same right to live as anybody. Cases like these are a shame for everything that our culture stands for.
