The main arch gate installed by IFFI management on the Dabolim highway has been collapsed injuring one person seriously. This is the second case of the poor quality workmanship executed by the IFFI management committee following the fall off screen installed at the Miramar beach in the last week. According to the sources on social media, the IFFI gate structure which was built near Dabolim Airport had been collapsed causing the serious injuries to one middle-aged person whose one hand has been completely damaged beyond scope of repair.
This incident took place today afternoon at Dabolim. The main Arch Gate erected by the IFFI on the main road had suddenly collapsed on the vehicles passing by. One of the middle-aged person lost his one hand in this accident and several vehicles have been damaged.
According to the sources, the arch was erected by the IFFI management to welcome the delegates on the Goa’s lone airport Dabolim. “The arch installed at the Airport Junction to welcome IFFI delegates collapsed on a stationary bus in afternoon. Luckily, no one was injured in the incident. However, the bus waiting for passengers got damaged,” a police official said.
The sources have revealed that the incident took place at around 12.45 pm when the metal designed structure covering both sides of the national highway at Dabolim came down crashing in the middle of road damaging the public as well private properties.
Although the police report claims there were no casualties but one person almost lost his one hand in this accident (Facebook Images) The Goa forward spokesperson Durgadas Kamat has made an appeal that the person who lost his one hand in this accident should be given the compensation by IFFI management and contractors. “We have been time and again saying that there is a massive corruption in renders awarded for IFFI 2016 by the ESG (Entertainment Society of Goa) vice-chairman Damodar Naik. He should be arrested immediately as the tender was cleared by ESG under him,” said Goa Forward spokesman Durgadas Kamat.
There was a huge traffic jam on the highway for almost two hours which was cleared by fire personnel by removing the debris of the collapsed arch. This is the very sad case the big organizations such as ESG and DFF getting involved into such a sub-standard work that too for the event like an international film festival. What kind of message will this incident send across to the international delegates who have come to Goa to attend the film festival?
This time government needs to take very serious action against the culprits involved in this mess regardless to which political parties they belong to. Please do leave your comments.
