The Goan tourism industry is largely dependent on the foreign tourists, and a small change in the rule makes a lot of difference to the stakeholders of the industry. According to the recent development FRRO (The Foreigners Regional Registration Officer) has decided to take action against the Hotel owners and others who provide the accommodations in their premises to foreigners, without proper registration of their details.

According to the sources, it is mandatory by law, to register the details of the foreign guests, by the owners of the hotels, and guest houses. “Under the Foreigners Order 1948, it is obligatory on the part of hotel owners, guest houses, individual houses, serviced apartments or any other facility providing accommodation to foreigners, to transmit the Form C to the FRRO,” said the sources.

In the case of the nonregistration of same, the defaulters will be prosecuted under the order 16 of the Foreigners Act, 1948, to be read with section 14 of the Foreigners Act 1946,” said the FRRO superintendent of police Bosco George. Recently, a new feature in the Form C module has been introduced in the system for individual house category, which provides a one-time password (OTP) based activation of Form C login details for users, who belong to the individual house category, said the sources.

According to the sources, In such cases, after filling up the registration form, an OTP will be sent automatically by the system to the mobile number of the user which is provided in the registration form. The OTP has to be entered in a slot on the user activation page along with the user ID to receive login details. Once this is done, users can log in directly to a system for submission of forms. “There is no need to visit the FRRO office for the approval of login details in such cases,” George said.
