Goa is considered to be one of the most preferred holiday destination in India for the celebration of New Year but, it looks like this time everything will be out of reach for the Domestic tourists, as the room rates of the top hotels will run into Rs. 1 Lakh per night, which is supposed to be five times more than the Top International Holiday Destinations like Dubai and Bali…

According to the reports published in the Business Standard, The room tariff of the Goa Hotels to hit the roof this New Year’s Eve with the high-end resorts like Taj and Marriott are quoting about a lakh of rupees per night which obviously includes the 28% of GST. Taj Exotica Resort & Spa and Taj Fort Aguada Resort & Spa in Goa are quoting a price of Rs 1,04,320 and Rs 67,040, respectively, for the one-night stay on December 31. If you take into the consideration the above rate of the stay in India for the year-end, the rooms, travel and transfer cost of the top international holiday destinations like Dubai and Bali would be five times cheaper.

The above data has been gathered from the most popular online hotel booking portals such as MakeMyTrip, that is quoting a price of Rs. 81,500 for a villa room with a garden view and breakfast. But this is just the hotel tariff. Expect to cough up an extra Rs 22,820 towards the GST (about 28 percent), taking total damages to Rs 1,04,320 for a one-night stay. If you book the same hotel room for a one-night stay in the month of January end, the tariff would drop to Rs 20,700; with the GST, and the total is Rs 26,720. The report further quoted that keeping in the mind above skyrocketing rates one would easily get a five/six-night holiday (for two) at popular international holiday destinations like Bali and Dubai with stay, flight, and local transfers at this price in mid-January.

Taj group has two property in Goa and its North Goa property which is the flagship Hotel of the group in Goa costs much lesser compared to the South Goa property. Taj Fort Aguada Resort & Spa, is commanding a price tag of Rs 52,200 for one night at a superior garden view room with breakfast. Along with Rs 14,840 in the GST, the total damages are Rs 67,040 for a one-night stay. Book the same hotel for a one-night stay on January 31, the tariff is Rs 13,200; with the GST, the total is Rs 17,120.

The Leela Goa has a pre-GST room price of Rs 55,989 with breakfast. But it will actually cost one Rs 71,666 along with the GST of Rs 15,677. The same hotel room will be priced at Rs 21,196 on January 31; with the GST, it is Rs 27,321. Taj Group of hotels situated at the other popular destinations in India like Udaipur, hotels such as Taj Lake Palace are sold out for the last day of this year. The hotel, situated in the middle of the lake, has 66 rooms and 17 suites. Eighty-seven-room hotel Oberoi Udaivilas, another prime property in the city, is also sold out. Trident, another luxury property, has none of its 137 rooms and four suites available on New Year’s Eve.

According to the sources, this year-end is completely different for the Hotels and Travel business compared to the last year when the demonetization struck to the country, and the new year’s celebration had become dry but. this year the hotel occupancies across the state are much higher compared to the last year and thus the prices have spiked to its highest peak. The declining inventory is the major cause of the price increase for the key holiday destinations like Goa, Udaipur, Jaipur, and Manali said the sources.

“Hotel tariffs have become dynamic like airfare and we are seeing a day-to-day price change based on demand. I am seeing an increase of almost 20 percent in demand, compared to last year when we had felt the pinch of demonetization and people were busy sorting out their finances. Hotels had seen cancellations and empty rooms last December,” said Kapil Goswami, managing director at BigBreaks, an online travel portal.

Although the prices of the top intentional holiday destinations are much lesser compared to India still the Indian people prefer to spend the new year in the country, said the sources. Out of the top 10 destinations that Indian travelers searched for travel during this period, only two – Dubai and Singapore – were international locations, said hotel search and price comparison engine Trivago. Goa topped the list and others in the top 10 were places like Jaipur, Puri, Udaipur, and Manali.

The sources revealed that, keeping aside the high-end hotels even the budget hotel booking portals like OYO Rooms have become almost 30% expensive this year compared to the last year. As the high-end hotels’ rooms are either getting full or becoming out of the reach of businessmen this year, they have started looking at the Budget hotels and due to that, the rates have spiked of the budget hotels too.

Several holiday destinations such as Goa, Corbett, Ranthambore, Mount Abu, and Panchmarhi. Sharat Dhall, president at online travel firm Yatra, said December-end hotel tariffs are 50 percent higher than off-season and peak dates such as Christmas and New Year are another 30-40 percent higher on average.
