THE STUDENTS WERE ON THEIR STUDY TRIP BUT FOUND ROAMING IN THE NIGHT TIME UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF ALCOHOL. A GROUP OF 10 STUDENTS WHO WERE IN GOA-ON THEIR VACATION (STUDY STRIP) HAD ASSAULTED THE LOCAL FAMILY FROM ARPORA UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF THE ALCOHOL, HAVE BEEN SENT INTO THE 7 DAYS POLICE CUSTODY. THE GROUP HAD CAME DOWN TO GOA FROM TAMILNADU, AND ON WEDNESDAY NIGHT AT AROUND 10 PM THEY WERE SPOTTED CREATING A RUCKUS IN THE ARPORA LOCALITY, AND WHEN ONE OF THE LOCAL RESIDENT CONFRONTED THEM, THEY STARTED ABUSING AND ASSAULTING THE FAMILY MEMBERS OF A LOCAL RESIDENT FROM ARPORA…

According to our earlier reports, 10 engineering students from Tamil Nadu were in Goa on their short vacation (study tour) but later in the night, under the influence of an alcohol, they started creating a ruckus in the locality which in turn bothered the local residents of Arpora. When one of the residents went to stop them from creating noise in the night time, they revolted and started assaulting the local guy Divkar and his other family members.

The incident had taken place in the late night of Wednesday in the Baga – Arpora area that comes under the jurisdiction of Anjuna Police station. According to the police reports, the group of students had also resorted to a strike in their college to demand a study tour in Goa, and this incident makes it clear that they wanted to come to Goa to have fun and consume alcohol on the pretext of the study tour.

The police report also claims that the final year engineering students were on the so-called study tour had been given an option to travel to Bangalore for their study tour, since the India’s IT hub has a provision for the studies for engineering students but, they went on to strike and demanded to change their location to Goa. Finally, the group of 120 students arrived in the state in three buses along with four professors and they all were staying in the resort at Arpora, said the sources.

Meanwhile, the Anjuna police had recorded the statement of the coordinator in charge of the tour who informed the police that, as per their guidelines, the students were supposed to report back to their place of stay before 9 pm but, they failed to do so at the time. This shows that the students were roaming outside without the permission of their tour coordinator.

Sources said that all 120 students were staying together in a residency comprising 143 rooms. The students had gone to Baga beach and were returning late night. Tensions had broken out after they barged into a villager’s residence and assaulted him and his family.

Goa is considered to be a destination where people come to have fun and the study tour, especially for the Engineering students looks to be little out of the context. What is your opinion on this? Do you think that such study tours should be allowed? Please share your valuable feedback on this issue.
