The demonetisation of the currency has put several limitations on the citizens of India and the same is applicable to the Goans too. The carrying of cash in excess is not easy anymore as the IT department is keeping a strict watch on the people, especially the businessman. It is another story that some of the big fishes are enjoying the privileges but overall scenario is very bad. In one such incident the Goan based businessman has been detained at the Goa – Karnataka border check post after he was found carrying the huge sum of amount in cash which includes Rs. 500 scrapped notes.
According to the news sources in the national media, the Goan based businessman has been detained at the Goa – Karnataka border at Keri. The sources have revealed that the Margao based businessman Shahabaz Hussain Muzawar was carrying the huge amount of cash in a form of old scrapped 500 rupees notes, 100 rupees notes, new 2000 rupees notes and the notes of Rs. 20 and 10.
Police sources have said that, Muzawar was detained during the regular course of checking at the Goa border in Kerim outpost while he was returning from Belgavi (Belgaum) later the police found out that he was carrying the huge cash amount in his vehicles that includes the old and new currency notes.
“Shahabaz Husain Muzawar was detained during the regular police check at Keri outpost on the Goa-Karnataka border while he was returning from Belagavi (Belgaum). He was found to be in possession of huge cash,” Inspector Dipak Pednekar said.
After the assessment of the cash police gave out the information about the detailed denomination of currency Muzawar was carrying with him. According to them, Muzawar was carrying Rs. 8 Lakh in the denomination of Rs. 100 and 500 (old scraped notes) out of which 3 lakh rupees were in the form of scraped notes of Rs. 500, and rupees 1.74 lakh was in new Rs. 2000 currency and remaining were in the denomination of Rs. 50, 20 and 10 said the police officer.
The police officer have decided to handover the suspect to Income Tax department for further inquiry. Meanwhile the sources have revealed that the police have been keeping the strict watch on Goa state border after the announcement of recent demonstration by Modi government.
