Goa Wins ‘Best Indian Destination for Relaxation – 2014

Goa was honoured with the title of ‘Best Indian Destination for Relaxation – 2014’ at the third edition of Lonely Planet Magazine India Awards on Wednesday, June 11, 2014 in Mumbai, which attracted the who’s who of the travel industry.
Reacting to the latest feather in Goa Tourism’s cap, Shri Dilip Parulekar, Tourism Minister, Government of Goa, said, “We are very proud and happy to have received the Lonely Planet Travel Award 2014 for Best Indian Destination for Relaxation for 2014. Goa is a state with many facets and we have observed that tourists come here mainly because the relaxed vibe in the state is something that attracts them. We have people visiting the state for everything right from bird watching to exploring culture and even just beach hopping. Goa Tourism recognizes and understands that every tourist is distinct and important, that is why safety and cleanliness is always at the top of our list of priorities. In order to cater to a larger volume of tourists and ensure that they go back with pleasant memories we have initiated several projects to improve infrastructure, accommodation and connectivity to Goa.”

The Lonely Planet Magazine India Travel Awards celebrates the best travel experiences available to Indians. An expert panel, comprising travel experts and professionals, shortlisted candidates in various categories, following which, readers of Lonely Planet Magazine were invited to vote both online and through the magazine. Lonely Planet is one of the world’s leading travel magazines that launched its Indian edition in 2010 and has gained a large reader base ever since.

Shripad Naik was in Goa to discuss measures to boost tourism in the state.
