After the news of 68 lakh cash seizure by the Income Tax Department from Valpoi in North Goa now another news of big amount of new notes has come into the light from Goa’s most happening spot Calangute. According to the Calangute PI, Mr. Jivba Dalvi, this is one of the biggest seizure of the new currency notes that Calangute police ever made.

Based the reports available from police and sources in IANS, the Calangute police under the guidance of Police Inspector and station in charge of Calangute Police Station , Shri. Jivba Dalvi had conducted the raid on the group of people and seized the huge amount of cash in New Currency Notes, mostly in Rs. 2000 denomination at the beach village of Calangute on Wednesday.

The total amount is said to be around 24 lakhs in the denomination of Rs. 2000 notes. The police spokesperson told Goa Prism that, the seizure was made from three local residents of Calangute who were in process of exchanging the new Rs. 2000 notes with the old 1000 and 500 note with the commission of 30%. This is yet another illegal currency transition that came into the light in the state of Goa in 24 hours time.

The raid was conducted by the Calangute police station under the guidance of PI, Jivba Dalvi. “We have conducted the raid following the tip-off. “The cash was seized in a car in Calangute village. The Income Tax department in Goa has been informed about the seizure and they will be conducting further investigations,” the spokesperson said.

When the media asked PI, Jivba Dalvi about the incident he said that “We received the information from the reliable sources that there is a gang of three people which is operating in the Calangute area for the conversion of Old Notes to News Currency of Rs. 2000 on the commission of 30%. Accordingly, we laid the trap with the decoy and placed our demand for Rs. 1 crore but the gang member said that it is not possible in the first instance and they agreed for Rs. 24 lakhs. We asked them to come to Calangute and handover the money. Accordingly, they agreed to come to Gaura Waddo in Calangute and gave us the vehicle number. On their arrival, we intercepted the vehicle received the cash. The entire cash was in form of new notes of Rs. 2000,” said Mr. Dalvi.

Mr. Dalvi said that they will now investigate the case and try to find out the main person behind this entire game. he said that the Calangute police is going to write to RBI and I-T department to find out the source of money.

The names of the arrested persons have not been revealed by the police yet as the matter is still under the investigation, said the sources. This case makes it clear that there are many such incidents going around in the state of Goa wherein the people still prefer to use the illegal way of exchange due to the huge amount of black money still existing in the market.

The entire credit of this raid goes to the Calangute PI Jivba Dalvi who used his wit to get hold of the culprits. Mr. Dalvi is transferred from Porvorim police station to Calangute recently and immediately after his transfer he has made such a big breakthrough. Goa Police department needs the officers like Mr. Dalvi.
