In one of a unique way of cracking down on the drug-related to activities in the north coastal belt, Goa police had conducted a special drive and penalized 300 motorists in a single day, in which 97 were the foreigners. But according to the sources, police did not manage to detect a single case of drug-related activities during their drive…

The North Goa coastal belt has become a notorious place for the drug-related activities and the recent cracks down on drugs at some of the famous tourists spot made the chances of catching culprit more possible. Finally, Goa Police decided to launch a unique drive to crack down on the drug-related activities and also to curtail the rising cases of an accidents and traffic violations in the state.

According to the sources, the drive was launched on Monday at north Goa beach belt consisting of Morjim, Siolim and Arambol and police also managed to penalised around 300 motorists for various violations but they could not manage to detect single case related to drug activity during their drive, despite the fact that the mission was carried out in the areas which are most famous for drugs activities in Goa.

The teams comprising of traffic police and the Anti Narcotic Cell (ANC) carried out the drive in Morjim, Arambol and Siolim areas, said Inspector General of Police (IGP), Jaspal Singh. “Of the total 300 traffic violators penalized, 97 were foreign nationals. The violations mostly pertained to not wearing of the helmet while riding,” said Singh adding that “Three different teams of the ANC carried out surprise checks in these areas, especially in shacks along the beaches. There was also a team of dog squad. But no drug-related incidents were noticed by the ANC teams.”

According to Mr. Singh, this was just a pilot task and more such drives will be conducted in the various parts of the state in the future. “SP ANC Umesh Gaonkar and SP Traffic, Dinraj Govekar, both were personally monitoring the drive, which went on until late evening. We will continue with such drives even in other regions of the state.”
