Goa Fomento Barge Sinks in Maharashtra coast at Redi

The barge carrying the iron ore belonging to Fomento Corporation has sunk in Maharashtra coast at Redi. The incident took place three days back and the video and images were uploaded on the social media by various sources. [su_expand more_text=”READ MORE” less_text=” ” height=”0″ hide_less=”yes” link_style=”button” link_align=”center”] According to the available information through various medium, the Goan barge which was carrying the excessive load of an iron ore sunk five nautical miles from Toracol Fort, near Redi port in Maharashtra. The barge had four crew members on board and there are no casualties reported.

According to the sources, the incident took place on Wednesday 20th April at around 6.30pm while the loaded ship was on its way to a vessel anchored in the deep sea. While inclement weather has been suspected as the reason behind the mishap, sources said tidal currents in the area were also particularly strong.

A video uploaded on social networking sites shows the barge sinking first from its stern. Sources said there was four crew aboard the vessel, who jumped into the sea minutes before it began going underwater. They were rescued by the crew of another barge that was in the vicinity.
