Goa College of Architecture Bus Met With an Accident, 25 Students Sustained Minor Injuries, Driver Is Seriously Injured

According to the Principal of the GCA 39 students and 2 faculty members were on board when the accident took place.

On Friday afternoon the Goa Architecture College bus met with an accident at Curca slope in Bambolim. The reason of the accident is said to be the failure of breaking system. The bus was traveling from Panaji to Bambolim Curca on Friday afternoon when the accident took place. The Architecture College bus in which 25 students were traveling hit the tree and broke the compound wall of St. Anne Church at Talaulim after the failure in breaking system.

25 students out of the total 39 in the bus sustained injuries and most of them banged their head on the seat railings after the bus rammed into the tree due to the break failure, said the sources. According to the Principal of the Goa College of Architecture situated at Altinho in Panaji, 39 students along with the two faculty members were on board when the accident took place.

According to the sources, the students along with the faculty were on their routine site visit to the St. Annes Church situated at Talaulim when the driver realized the breaks of Bus failed to save the major accident he turned vehicle which rammed into the nearby tree. The impact was such that front portion of the bus was completely smashed.

THE FRONT PORTION OF THE BUS GOT BADNLY DAMAGED

All the 39 students were admitted into the GMC and except for the bus driver who sustained serious injuries and four students rest all were discharged after the first aid. The faculty members and the cleaner managed to escape with the minor injuries, said the sources. “Not a single student lost consciousness,” said the principal of College Mr. Rege.    

Meanwhile, the Agasaim police station PI Santosh Desai told the TOI at the sharp turn at Curca, which is on a steep descent, the bus brakes failed and the bus veered to the edge of the road and hit a tree before hitting the compound wall of the St Anne Church.

The above case is the clear example of the poorly maintained bus service was used by the College of Architecture causing endangering the lives of the students. The concern authorities need to take the serious measures in this case and do the thorough investigation as for how the failure of breaking system took place.

This is not the first case of students lives have put into risk by the educational institutions but there is no strict law is in the place to tackle such situation. Here, in this case, nothing much happened to accept the injuries but the situation could have been worst if the bus had rammed into the another vehicle.
