GAS CYLINDER PILFERAGE BY THE DEALERS OR THEIR EMPLOYEES IS AN OLD STORY. IT HAPPENS ALL OVER INDIA, AND MANY VIDEO CLIPS OF THE SAME HAVE GONE VIRAL. BUT FOR GOA THIS IS PERHAPS THE FIRST TIME THAT SOMEONE GOT CAUGHT RED HANDED DOING THE PILFERAGE OF LPG, AND THAT TOO IN A BROAD DAYLIGHT. WHATEVER LOCALS DID AFTERWARDS WILL SURELY SURPRISE YOU….
Due to the alertness of, one of the vigilant resident of Benaulim, the matter of LPG pilferage came into the light. According to the sources, one of the residents vigilant of Benaulim, Joaozinho Fernandes helped in catching the culprits behind the theft of a domestic and industrial LPG.
Mr. Fernandes came to know about the ongoing pilferage of the LPG while the delivery van is out for the delivery of the cylinders and he intercepted the vehicle and caught four men of Damodar Gas Agency involved in the pilferage of the domestic and Industrial gas cylinders.
According to Joaozinho Fernandes, he observed the act while passing by the vehicle, and when he smelled a gas leak he became sure about the ongoing pilferage of LPG. “I smelt a rat in their act, and I immediately called the neighbors from the nearby areas and exposed the culprits,” said Joaozinho Fernandes.
According to the eyewitness, the modus operandi of the culprits was to take an empty cylinder and attach it to the fully filled gas cylinder with the help of a small dispenser. They used to fill a substantial amount of gas from each filled cylinder into the empty one, and later on sell the same illegally to a needy person at a premium price. (Perhaps now you may know from where all those “black” cylinders comes from)
Joaozinho managed to catch hold of three men in the vehicle while one of them managed to flee the scene. Meanwhile, the Benaulim MLA and heavyweight politician of South Goa Mr. Churchill Alemao along with the Panchas of the village reached the spot. Mr. Alemao called the police and sent the culprits into the custody for further action.
The proprietor of the Damodar Agency Jayesh Majithiya also rushed to the spot and soberly agreed that such kind of things do take place, but he saw it for the first time. “I had heard of this kind of things happens in other places but never knew that this is being done by my workers. I will ensure that necessary action is taken against these accused workers.”
Mr. Alemao assured the people of Benaulim that he will not keep quite and bring this issue before the Government. “I will raise this issue with the Government and make sure that the pilferage stops immediately,” he said.
Roque Fernandes from Benaulim said, “People are already suffering due to the increased LPG prices and now if this is going to happen, then, there is no respite for the common man and his sufferings.” The police detained the three men and later handed them over to the Civil Supplies for further action.
It is the very sad thing that the people have reached to such a level wherein just to make little more bucks, they do not bother about the consequences anymore. The involvement of the agency in this cannot be ruled out completely, and the direction of the police investigation into this matter will decide the fate of the gas dealers in Goa.
