The Curchorem MLA Nilesh Cabral suppose to have played a vital role in the coalition Government formation in the state along with the Calangute MLA Micheal Lobo. But unfortunately, both of them haven’t get the cabinet berths as yet. Although none of them displaying any sort of protest over it openly but according to the sources both of them are not happy about it. But now the signs of the revolt has already started appearing in the Cuchorem with the native BJP workers demanding for the cabinet ministry for their MLA Nilesh Cabral.
The coalition government demands the sacrifices, but nobody wants to become a scapegoat. BJP had to take the support of almost nine MLAs to form their government in the state and that itself become the biggest challenge for the BJP senior leaders. Parrikar being the head of the party kept all the major portfolios with him and distributed remaining amongst the allies who are the main pillars of BJP coalition government in the state.
All the nine MLAs who had supported BJP in the formation of a government in the state and they were rewarded with the ministerial berths in the cabinet and due to this may BJP MLAs felt offended but none spoke out in the open. But now the picture seems to be changing. Although the MLAs are not ready to come out with the demand but their demands have been put forward by their supporters.
According to the sources, Nilesh Cabral is the only BJP MLA in the southern region, which comprises five constituencies, with Congress MLAs in Canacona and Quepem, the MGP in Sanvordem and an independent in Sanguem. Speaking to The Goan, Curchorem BJP Mandal President Ashok Naik said Cabral should be given a ministerial berth, but admitted that competition for the berths would prevail among the BJP MLAs. “Only time will tell who will get the remaining berths,” he said.
Curchorem-Cacora Municipal Council (CCMC) Chairperson Sushant Naik said the Curchorem MLA won for the second time and had won by the highest margin among the BJP MLAs. “He has carried out various development works in Curchorem constituency and has earned the right of being elevated as a minister,” said Naik.
Goa BJP Yuva Morcha vice-president Omkar Vasta also voiced similar sentiments. “We want Nilesh Cabral to be a minister this tenure because he won for the second time with a huge margin.” “If Cabral becomes a minister, then various works of the people will be completed not only from Curchorem but also from neighboring constituencies, as there is no BJP MLA from the entire southern region consisting of five constituencies,” said Vasta. Despite repeated attempts, Cabral did not respond to calls for comments in the matter.
