Four out of the Six Local Youth Arrested by Goa Police In Raia Man’s Murder Case

The scuffle that began in a local Bar at Raia in south Goa, had resulted into the murder of one Francisco Carvalho of Raia. The murderers were the local residents of Raia and they disposed the body under the Borim Bridge. The Goa Police, as usual, registered the case as unnatural death when they found the body claiming as unidentified under the Borim Bridge, but soon the tables turned when the deceased was identified as Francisco Carvalho from Raia.

The momentum of investigation took speed after discovering the identity of the deceased and police began investigating the reason behind his death and soon they reach to the Bar where the deceased was murdered by the six local youth.

According to the police investigation, the deceased Francisco went to the Carlton Bar situated in Raia under the influence of Alcohol and demanding for Alcohol in a loud voice. The incident took place on the late-night of 5th September, said the police source.

Looking at the rude behavior of Francisco, the group of youth sitting in the bar became offended and the argument broke out between the deceased and group of youth. The verbal argument led to a scuffle and that resulted in the stabbing of Francisco by the group of youth.

The six youth already present in the bar beaten the Francisco and stabbed him with the broken bottle resulting in profuse bleeding and subsequent death. The group of youth then decided to dispose of the body of deceased and they took it to the nearby Borim Bridge where they finally dumped it under the bridge.

The swift move by the Goa Police under the guidance of the south Goa SP Arvind Gawas managed to nab 4 out of the 6 accrued. South Goa superintendent of police, Arvind K Gawas said they have arrested Royan Alvares, 21, Vilton Coutinho, 34, and Melburn Coutinho, 22, residents of Anuz, Nuvem, and Valencio Vaz, 26, a resident of Minglar, Shiroda. All four have confessed to the crime, he said.      

It may be recalled that the body of deceased Carvalho was found dumped on a platform of one of the Pillar at Borim bridge at Loutolim on Friday morning with deep stab injuries on his abdomen and back, and also wounds on his head. However, no murder weapon was recovered by the police at the site.

Under the leadership of Margao sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) Raju Raut Dessai, a team comprising police inspectors Pravinkumar G Vast, Sandesh Chodankar, Ravi Desai, Wilson D’Souza, Tushar Lotlikar, Rahul Parab and Salim Shaikh, and police constables Avinash Naik, Somnath Naik, Ajay Naik, Vikas Naik, Vikas Kaushik and Chetan Koli was formed to investigate the case.   

Police found that 33-year-old Carvalho, who was a resident of Manora, Raia, had a drink at a local bar on Thursday, and later proceeded home at around 10 pm. Later, he once again headed to the bar at around midnight. “Carvalho lost consciousness after the attack. The accused seated him on a motorbike and later dumped his body on the bridge pier platform,” the police officer said, adding that the accused claimed that Carvalho had died before they dumped him.            

An offense under Section 302 (murder) of the IPC has been registered against all the six accused. The arrested persons have been remanded to four-day police custody by Margao JMFC in order to trace the other two who are absconding.
