Harassment against women, turn to any newspaper at random and one would find the reports of such kind of violence in Goa and all over the country. These are all what we come to know through different forms of media. There are more such cases which go unreported every day. In a recent harassment incident that took place in the political section, late councillor Ashlesha Naik’s father Ramesh Naik on Thursday revealed an audio recording exposing the Margao MLA Digambar Kamat for ignoring his daughter’s complaints over the alleged harassment by Damu Shirodkar, former councillor of Margao Municipal Council (MMC) Ward 21. [su_expand more_text=”READ MORE” less_text=” ” height=”0″ hide_less=”yes” link_style=”button” link_align=”center”]With just three days to go for the by-election for ward 21 of Margao Muncipal Council, Ramesh Naik, father of late councilor Ashlesha Naik, has made a fervent plea to the voters to elect Succorina Fernandes to the Civic body. According to a source Ramesh addressed the media on Thursday with a tape recorder to prove a point that he was betrayed by Margao MLA Digamabr Kamat by denying that his daughter had never complained to him about the harassment by former councilor Damu Shirodkar after her election in the 2015 municipal poll.
At a press conference he has produced an audio recording of the conversations between Ashlesha and Digambar wherein she complained of the harassment by Shirodkar. In the audio, Digambar is heard praising Shirodkar for being popular among the people and later terming Shirodakar’s action as ‘frustration’ after losing the ward election. Digambar is also heard advising Ashlesha speaking anything against Damu. In the audio Ashlesha is also heard complaining about the harassment.
It may be recalled that the Margao MLA, in a press conference, had claimed that late Ashlesha did not complain about the harassment inflicted to her even once. “This audio has proved that the MLA Digambar Kamat has breached my trust,” he said.
“Sucorina is like my daughter and I request the voters of ward 21 to avenge the breach of trust and the harassment inflicted to my daughter by Damu and elect Sucorina this bye-election” Naik said. Ramesh has requested the residents to ensure the defeat of Digambar panel-backed candidate.
