The Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) Canacona, after more than one and half year, has directed the Goa police to register Swedish national Felix Dahl’s death as a murder. Dahl was found dead in suspicious circumstances on January 28, 2015, in Patnem, Canacona-Goa. According to a source, JMFC Sarika N Fal Desai directed the Canacona police station to register, within a month of the order, the first information report (FIR) in the Dahl case under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code. Shikha Sethia Bhura appeared for the applicant. Dahl, who had come for a holiday to Goa in 2014, is said to have been last seen at a restaurant at Patnem before his body was found on a quiet gravel road, 200m away from his restaurant.
On the 28th January 2015 at around 5:30 am, a local who saw Dahl’s body outside her house in Patnem, informed the Police. The applicant told the court that Dahl was murdered and the authority was reluctant to take cognizance of the murder. Pirhonen told the court that the investigating authority has stated that Dahl’s death was caused due to accidental fall, which is perverse and is based on imaginary findings.
The investigating officer’s preliminary inquiry said the deceased might have had an accidental fall at the edge of the road which had a stone border. The deceased might have sustained bleeding cut injuries and remained unattended at the same place for a long, due to which he succumbed to the injuries, police said. However, Dahl’s family claims that Dahl’s wounds and circumstances around his death did not point to an accident.
