Victoria Fernandes social worker turned politician is a lady of substance celebrated her 80th birthday in alluring ceremony at Kala Academy in attendance of dignitaries from political and cultural field. The celebration was organized by “Victoria Fernandes Felicitation Committee” in presence of more than 1000 people from St. Cruz constituency. The book “Flower of Fire” published by the Felicitation committee in honor of Mrs. Fernandes was unveiled on this occasion.

On this occasion the opposition leader Luizinho Faleiro spoke about the work done by Mrs. Fernandes and about her sacrifices for her constituency, he also used the dice to pitch the failure story of the opposition and how BJP government under the leadership of Manohar Parrikar took the Goa into debt trap. Although towards the end of his speech he apologized to the audience for deviating from the subject.

The Social activist Aires Rodregues, who was also present on this occasion, told the audience about his association with Mrs. Fernandes from the time she was politically active. He kept his speech very well balanced by maintaining his respect for Mrs. Fernandes and keeping his style of working against the diversities in the society. He mentioned that every person has to respect the freedom expression of others. According to him politics is very dirty field and he said that “Politics is the last resort of the Scoundrels”. Other dignitaries who delivered their speeches comprise of noted tiatrist and politician Tomizaho Cardozo, former congress leader Nirmala Sawant & Dilip Borkar, editor of Bimb.

Finally the birthday girl Mrs. Victoria Fernandes who is famously known as “Mummy” in her constituency but pronounced as “Mamy” came on the dice to give her short but sweet speech to all the gathered well wishers of her constituency. She started her speech saying that she may not be able to speak much as she is suffering from severe cold but once she took over she did not stop. She keep going telling about her journey and the problems she faced all the way and how the people of her constituency stood by her, especially when she lost her life partner how her courageous son Rudolf stood by her side and helped her in all her fight against the injustice in the society. Finally she said that now she is getting older but she will not stop this fight till the end “Till the last drop of blood in my vein I will work for the people of Goa” she noted. With this she thanked the gathered crowd in packed air-conditioned auditorium of Kala Academy for remaining present on her birthday.
