There is a news of one more road mishap froM the south Goa. A two-wheeler rode by youth dashed against the oncoming truck killing the pillion rider while the rider is seriously injured undergoing the treatment at GMC said the sources. The road accidents in Goa have become a regular affair and with the tremendous rise in vehicular traffic, the road accidents showing steep growth in the state. The rash driving is also considered as one of the major reasons behind the road accidents in the state of Goa. People are less inclined towards making use of the public transport which is not up to the mark in the state at the moment, which results in the growth of two wheelers in the road makes the traffic situation more swelled up, said the sources.
According to the sources, A youngster lost his life and two others were injured out of which one is serious, in an accident that occurred at Tembi Raia yesterday afternoon involving a truck and a scooter. The sources have said that Gautam Shirodkar, 24, who was sitting a pillion on the Honda Activa scooter died in this accident while the rider, Abhishek Kundaikar, 21 has got seriously wounded in the head collision with the oncoming truck.
The duo was proceeding towards Borim from Margao on Ponda – Margao highway when they had a head-on collision with the truck coming from the opposite direction, said the sources. Abhishek Kundaikar was riding the bike while the deceased Gautam Shirodkar was sitting a pillion. According to the sources, the impact was so severe that, after the collision, both the scooterists were flung off the scooter and their scooter went hitting the another person Kewal Kashinath Naik walking on the footpath resulting into minor injuries to him, however, the injured Kashinath Naik was discharged from hospital after the treatment.
The sources have also said that this seems to be the case of rash and negligent driving. The scooterist was in the process of overtaking while it was hit by the truck coming from the opposite direction. According to the sources, Gautam Shirodkar, 24, a resident of Shiroda, and Abhishek, a resident of Vasco, were rushed to Goa Medical College Hospital at Bambolim where Gautam died at around 9.30 pm while Abhishek is undergoing treatment and his condition is reported to be serious. Maina Curtorim police are on the lookout for the driver of the truck who fled the scene after the accident.
