The story of the fire, which turned the major part of the RTO office into the ashes, on the Gandhi Jayanti day, was only half of the tale, cause not all the documents were turned into the ashes in the fire that broke out on the 2nd October at KTC bus terminus. But, according to the reports, a large chunk of the documents was either half burnt or partially burnt, and the story of what happened to those documents is more shocking compared to the incident of fire, which broke out due to the negligence of the authorities…

The incident came into the light following the images of the documents scattered all over the road on Old Goa bypass went viral on social media, raising serious concerns over the issue of privacy of the identity of the people, whose half-burnt and partially burnt documents were dumped by the authorities at the dump yard on the Old Goa bypass following the incident of fire at RTO office.

MOST OF THE DOCUMENTS ARE HAVING VISIBLE IDENTITIES ON IT

It is a matter of serious concern for every inhabitant of the state, who had submitted their most crucial documents, such as PAN card, Aadhar, Passport, certificates, etc. while applying for the license, transfer of the vehicle, new registration, or any of the work related to the RTO office. But what the RTO office had done was, thrown the half-burnt or partially burnt documents in the dump yard.

According to the reports, RTO documents, such as important papers, certificates, and identity proofs of public were found lying on the roadside at Old Goa Bypass. The reports revealed following the fire incident at the RTO office in Panaji that all the burnt and partially burnt documents were dumped on the Old Goa bypass road.

The sources have revealed that following the fire incident, in which the entire RTO department was almost destroyed to ashes, while clearing the place at the KTC office, and while in the process of shifting the RTO office to the new location, the half-burnt and partially burnt documents were dumped at Old Goa dump yard, that started spreading on the roadside in due course of time.

This incident exposes the carelessness of the authorities whom the people of Goa have trusted with their important documents, which is at the high risk of getting misused today. Who knows whose documents would be found there, and could lead to the misuse of the same by the antisocial elements?

VERY CRUCIAL DOCUMENTS SUCH AS RC BOOKS, CERTIFICATES, PAN CARDS, SIGNED FORMS ARE ON ROADS

Following the incident of images of the documents getting viral on social media, the authorities woke up and swung into action, and instead of burning the documents this time, they made the arrangements to get them buried in the soil of the dump yard. According to the sources, they (the RTO officials) made arrangements for the laborers and instructed them to clear the dump along the roadside, but the same was pushed into the field along with the garbage.

Now the matter of concern here is, what if these documents, which may be clear and slightly burnt with visible identity proofs of address and certificates, were misused by the unknown persons, for the purpose of anti-social activities, forgery, or terror activities? Who will be responsible for the same? Will the RTO authorities shoulder the responsibilities for the same? What do you think about this entire episode? Please share your honest views on this serious issue.
