Doctors are the ones who have been given an enormous power over the life and death which they possess. There is a general agreement that there should be zero tolerance of cheating in a profession based on trust and one on which human lives depend. At times doctors have failed to earn that trust from their patients as in a recent incident, taking cognizance of a complaint by the director of health services, Mapusa police have booked Dr. Sharad Bhat from a Peddem hospital for cheating a 56-year-old woman. [su_expand more_text=”READ MORE” less_text=” ” height=”0″ hide_less=”yes” link_style=”button” link_align=”center”]According to police, director of health services Dr. Sanjiv Dalvi on Monday evening has lodged a complaint that prior to August 3 at Vrundavan Shalby Hospital, Mapusa, Dr. Sharad Bhat dishonestly convinced Sarita Kankonkar to undergo knee replacement surgery at the hospital by promising good services but failed to keep his word.

According to the information, Police has booked the doctor for practicing without any registration as the accused is not registered with the Goa Board of Indian System of Medicine and Homeopathy and nor under Goa Medical Practitioner Act 2004.

PI Tushar Lotlikar said that they will summon all doctors, other staff, and management of the hospital. An offense under Section 420 of IPC and sections 3, 5 read with 15 of the Goa Medical Practitioner Act has been registered against the doctor and investigations are underway.
