DR. PRASHANT NATEKAR WAS RIPPED OFF HIS POSITION AS HEAD OF DEPARTMENT OF ANATOMY IN GOA MEDICAL COLLEGE AND HOSPITAL, BAMBOLIM. THERE ARE ALLEGEDLY PENDING VIGILANCE INQUIRY AGAINST HIM, BUT SURPRISINGLY HE HAS BEEN APPOINTED AS A MEMBER OF THE MEDICAL EDUCATION CELL.
The appointment came as a surprise to the hospital and college faculty, as back in June he was relieved of his responsibilities as the head of the department in GMC hospital and college. He was even asked to report to the public health department, at Secretariat, in Porvorim for a pending inquiry.
Despite not being cleared of any charges leveled against him he has been appointed in the medical education cell. Speaking on this a GMC doctor said “We are aghast that he has been appointed as a member of medical education cell despite the charge against him and his removal as head of department pending inquiry. It meant he was not supposed to even visit the department,”
Facing multiple complaints, some filed by his own colleagues about alleged harassment at the workplace as well as professional irregularities. Some students even accused him of favoritism.
The health minister in his file note, in June, had said that complaints against Natekar were very serious in nature, and ought to have been dealt with sternly.
The MEC is mainly tasked with selecting topics for continuing medical education (CME), selecting speakers for CMEs and organizing workshops during the period of its tenure.
A new eight-member MEC with Dean Dr. Pradeep Naik as chairman was re-constituted after two members ceased to be part of the old MEC. Dr. Jagdish Bhat resigned from the cell, while Dr. D D Motghare superannuated.
What do you think about this appointment? With criminals handling our country now, we have them deciding curriculums for our future doctors? Where is our system heading with corrupted leaders like this?
