Two 14 years old students of a madrassa in Birla, Zuarinagar-Goa, going missing has become a worrisome matter for the Goa Police. Based on a complaint lodged by a teacher of the madrassa, Arbia Mohammed Jasim, the two boys, both aged 14, went missing from the madrassa on October 9. What’s more worrisome is the fact that the case comes at a time when ISIS is targeting teenagers to join the extremist forces. Read more here.

A tensed situation arises as this case comes at the time when ISIS is targeting teenagers to join the extremist force. South Goa SP, Shekhar Prabhudessai, said that it was premature to probe if the boys were radicalized. “Our primary task at hand is to trace the missing boys. Nothing can be said until we get to know their whereabouts,” Prabhudessai said.

“We have taken the case with due seriousness. We have CCTV footage of the two missing students at the Margao railway station on the very day they disappeared. We sent a police team to Mumbai but the boys could not be traced. We will now be sending more teams to Mangalore, Bangalore and other places in Karnataka to trace them,” Verna PI Shailesh Narvekar said, adding that they have also begun the process of publishing notices in the media regarding the missing minors.

According to Abbas’s father Mohammed Sheikh, alleged that his son was compelled to run away from the madrassa owing to the torture he was subjected to by one of the teachers over there. “Few days before he disappeared, he called his mother complaining that his teacher’s beatings have become unbearable. But before we could visit the madrassa and meet the teachers, we learned about his disappearance,” the worried father said.

With the hope of finding their missing son, the Sheikh couple has been taking rounds to the Verna Police station and the South Goa Headquarters every alternate day. The Verna Police has registered an offense under section 363 (kidnapping) of the Indian Penal Code and section 8 of the Goa Children’s Act, meanwhile intense efforts are on to trace the two minor boys.
