Perhaps the former chief minister of Goa and congress strongman from south is using the similar tactics used by one of the convicted legislature to evade his arrest. The fear of possible arrest is making him feel insecure from all the sides, according to him; in absence of anticipatory bail acceptance by the court his arrest will be inevitable and hence he did not appear before the crime branch despite of their summons.

Based in the available information the hearing on anticipatory bail of Digamber Kamat was scheduled today and just before half an hour of the scheduled hearing crime branch summoned Kamat to appear before them for answering the queries but Kamat did not appear on the anticipation that he might get arrested by the crime branch in case of rejection of his anticipatory bail application. This fact was later on cleared by his counsel in front of medial saying “It was complete wrong move by crime branch by summoning his client half an hour before the anticipatory bail application come up for hearing” while the public prosecutor on the other hand said that the former chief minister is not cooperating with the crime branch, but Desai immediate denied this and said that “Kamat had appeared before the crime branch and could do it again today (Wednesday) evening”

The actual story goes like this, Digamber Kamat was issued summons by the crime branch of Goa asking him to appear before them at afternoon on Wednesday which was little prior to the bail plea hearing. This gave rise to speculation in the mind of Kamat and his counsel that Kamat might get arrested if his bail plea is rejected by the court, while in event of such situation he wanted to prepare for going in appeal at high court challenging the order and getting possible arrest deferred. In fact Kamat wrote letter to the crime branch through his counsel Desai saying “I am busy consulting my lawyers in connection with the anticipatory bail. So I will not be able to present (myself) before the investigating officer“.

Presumably that Kamat was aware of the facts that Wachasunder has given explicit details before a magistrate here on how the bribe was paid, where it was paid and how much money was paid to these two ministers. The Crime Branch, which has opposed his bail, had earlier told the court that Kamat allegedly accepted bribe at his official residence here, which was also the venue of several heated discussions and arguments with bureaucrats to clear the deal for the US firm.

The crime branch has already arrested four people in Louis Berger bribery case including the former PWD minister Churchill Alemao and it is not the hidden fact that Kamat will have to face the similar fate now or later, but Kamat is trying all the ways escape from the reality, but how long? Will his efforts to evade the possible arrest bring positive marks to him from jury as well as his voters? Will he really loose his credibility as claimed by him after getting arrested? Or he is already lost his credibility in front of everyone by playing the games of safety measures to avoid the arrest? The fact is already made public that the bribes were paid to these two ministers with their names. But according to them witness is not sufficient and they need solid proof, it may be well justified provided he cooperates with investigation and undergo arrest if required and if he is not guilty he will come out clean anyways.
