Based on the statement released by Sankalp Amonkar General Secretary and Spokesperson of Goa Pradesh Congress Committee, the demolition in Baina area is with the intention to target Congress vote bank. According to Sankalp, the BJP government is insensitive to the sufferings of the common man, especially the downtrodden and this is evident from the fact that demolition notices have been served on 121 houses at Baina, Vasco, on the eve of the monsoon. Here is a report of how Sankalp pointed out that the demolition was planned to guarantee that BJP retains the Mormugao seat. The above statement makes one thing clear that Congress finally agreed that the Baina hutment is their vote bank.

He charged on local MLA and power minister Milind Naik to be involved behind the show cause notices served to inhabitants. Amonkar also stated that once demolition is done, their names would be deleted from the electoral rolls.

While speaking at the press conference, Amokar said that because the inhabitants are supporters of the Congress, the BJP wants to get them out during the monsoon.

The people living in those 121 houses have been given 15 days’ time to submit documents to prove the legality of structures to GCZMA by June 10. Or else the final order for demolition will be issued.

Amonkar alleged, that after this demolition drive, around 500 voter names were removed from the list.

Amonkar pointed out that, “When the mamlatdar had identified and submitted the names of the structure owners in November 2015, why did the BJP government wait till monsoon? BJP has always conducted demolitions during the rainy season, may it be the red light area demolition in 2004 or last year’s demolitions. People face a lot of difficulties when such actions are taken during the monsoon.”
