Recently the contract of 32000 crore signed by the Goa Shipyard Limited for the construction of eight minesweeper ships had been approved by the ministry of India. The whole idea of this contract was to create more employment and business opportunists to small scale businesses in Goa.
In the recent case the Union ministry has asked public sector undertaking Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) to examine whether it is feasible to set up a helicopter manufacturing unit in Goa. Speaking to media persons from Goa at south block in the ministry at Delhi, Minister Manohar Parrikar said that he has asked HAL to put “a business plan” before the ministry for the purpose. If set up, it could be the country’s second helicopter manufacturing unit, he added. At the Goa investment summit 2015 held last month, Parrikar had expressed interest to set up a helicopter manufacturing unit in the state.
The things do not stop here. Recently the Dabolim naval base was instructed by the ministry to increase the flights landing timings to facilitate the commercial activities at the airport. In another recent incident the minister Manohar Parrikar informed that his ministry will release land occupied by the military in Panaji if any public interest project is affected. Speaking to media persons at the ministry office at south block in Delhi, Parrikar said that, in this regard, the minister will send a circular to the chief secretary of Goa about the guidelines finalized by the ministry to release military land for public purpose.
Mr. Parrikar said that he has discussed the Panaji issue with Panaji MLA Sidharth Kuncalienker and that he has asked him to submit a proposal to the minister through the state government. He said that the military hospital opposite Kala Academy is one such property, adding that it could be released by giving alternative land for the hospital. During the Panaji by-election campaign, Parrikar had promised the electorate that he would release the land for public purpose. This was after the mayor of Panaji, Surendra Furtado, and the Congress besides other organizations, had demanded that the minister should get the organizations to release the property, for putting up facilities like multi-level parking.
