DEADLY ACCIDENT ON RIBANDAR – OLD GOA BYPASS, 36-YEAR-OLD WOMAN DIED ON THE SPOT IN A HEAD-ON COLLUSION BETWEEN WATER TANKER AND SCOOTER

SHE WAS ON HER WAY BACK HOME TO OLD GOA AFTER FINISHING HER WORK, AND AT THE SAME TIME THE WATER TANKER WAS PROCEEDING TOWARDS PANAJI, AND IN THE NEXT MOMENT HER TWO WHEELER COLLIDED HEAD ON WITH THE WATER TANKER.

Driving on the Panaji – Old Goa bypass is a highly risky business. Due to the ongoing work, the initial stretch of the Ribandar bypass has become an accident-prone zone. According to the sources, a 36-year-old, Maharunisa Bi Naik was on her way back home when the accident took place.

Meharunisa Bi Naik, a resident of Baiguinim, Old Goa had come down to Panaji due to some work, and after finishing her work she was on her way back to Old Goa. According to the police sources, it was late evening and the water tanker which was proceeding towards Panaji collided head-on with an oncoming scooter, on Raibandar – Old Goa bypass road.

THE TWO WHEELER COLLIDED HEAD ON WITH THE WATER TANKER

According to the Old Goa Police, the Water Tanker bearing registration number GA 07 T 4528 collided with Active Scooter bearing registration number GA 07 V 0195. Due to the impact, Meharunisa got seriously injured and succumbed to her injuries on the spot. The accident took place on Monday late evening, said the sources.

The sources also revealed that the deceased rider was not wearing a helmet when the accident took place. Whether the water tanker was driving in a rash manner is not yet verified, but the Old Goa police is doing the investigation in this case.

The body of the deceased Maharunisa has been sent the GMC (Goa Medical College) for the post mortem and reports are awaited. The Old Goa police have registered the case as accidental death and arrested the driver for driving in a rash and negligent manner thus causing the death. further investigation is in progress, said the sources.

THE STATE OF THE SCOOTER AFTER THE IMPACT

The fatalities are on raising the state due to the violations of the traffic rules. Rash and negligent driving, not wearing the helmets, and not following the lane rules are the major cause of an accident in the state, said the sources. 

The population of the state is very low compared to other states but the number of vehicles moving on the road is very large. Goa Traffic Police is making all the efforts to reduce the number of road accidents but in vain.
