THE PRIVATE LOCAL BUS THAT WAS TRAVELING FROM PERNEM TO THE MAPUSA MET WITH AN ACCIDENT ON ITS WAY AT DHARGAL, CAUSING SERIOUS INJURIES TO AROUND 22 PEOPLE. THE CAUSE OF ACCIDENT IS SAID TO BE THE POTHOLE ON THE ROAD DUE TO WHICH THE BUS DRIVER LOST THE CONTROL OVER VEHICLE, AND AS A RESULT, THE BUS SKID AND PLUNGED INTO THE TRENCH ALONG THE NH 17 AT DHARGAL IN PERNEM….
The reports said that more than 22 passengers were injured in this accident at Dhargal in North Goa. Many have said to be seriously injured but with the grace of God everyone had survived this deadly accident, said the sources. The bus was traveling from Arambol to Mapusa said the sources.
The injured people include the senior citizens, women and three and half year old boy. According to the Pernem police, the accident took place at around 12.30 pm when the bus was on its way from Pernem to Mapusa, and while it reached to Dhargal, the driver lost control of the vehicle while in process of overtaking, due to which bus fell into the trench and later turned turtle.
Following the accident, the locals rushed to the spot and removed some people who had trapped inside the bus Meanwhile the fire Brigade from Mapusa also reached to the accident spot and started the rescue operations, said the sources.
The fire personnel and police rushed the injured people to the district hospital at Peddem in Mapusa. The injured also comprised of the bus driver Rajendra Konadakara from Dhargal. Police till Monday evening could record the driver’s statement.
According to the reports from the District hospital in Mapusa, there were total 22 passengers who had been admitted to the hospital, and most of them were suffered the head injuries. Except for the one, Pratima Kersakar, who had been shifted to the GMC (Goa Medical College) at Bambolim.
Except for the 5 victims that also includes the three had a half-year-old boy, have been kept in the district hospital for the treatment, rest all had been discharged following the initial treatment.
Meanwhile, there is a news of loot by the six passengers who allegedly tried to grab whatever valuable they get their hands on, by taking the advantage of the situation. The sources said that following the accident there were cell phones and other valuables that have been scattered all over, and these rogues were in process of fleeing with the booty, however, the locals grabbed them and handed over to the police, said the sources.
The accidents are unavoidable but it also depends on the drives as how he maneuver the vehicle. In this case, there are various theories that have come up following the accident. Some locals had quoted that suddenly another vehicle appeared from opposite direction and driver lost the control while others claim that the accident happened due to the potholes on the road.
