A two-wheeler rider came under the front wheels of the bus while overtaking it and People blamed it on the authorities of under construction four-lane highway which is going through the Dabolim touching the lone international airport of Goa. While the mini bus and the scooterist were traveling in the same direction, the rider tried taking over the bus but dashed against the crane which was in process of crossing the road.

According to the sources, the accident took place around 12 pm when the deceased, identified as Navin Naik (30), a resident of Alto Dabolim, was heading towards the airport on his Activa scooter and while trying to overtake the mini bus dashed against the crane crossing the road and then came under the front wheels of the bus and got trapped. Navin died on the spot. The Vasco-bound passenger mini bus was also proceeding towards the same direction on the four-lane highway opposite INS Hansa gate near Dabolim airport on Sunday afternoon, said the sources.

One of the eyewitness told the media that this accident took place since there were no traffic police to guide the traffic around. he also blamed the construction work of the four-lane highway which is going on in full swing. “Today one youth lost his life and the reason behind this is the non-existence of the traffic police on the road. When the work of bridge is going on there is a need for traffic police to guide the traffic.” He said adding that due to the sudden movement of the crane youth dashed against it and lost his life.

The sources also revealed that when the scooterist reached near INS Hansa gate, a crane that was being used for the grade separator project suddenly came forward on the main four-lane road from INS Hansa gate due to which Naik lost balance and dashed against it and skidded. At the same time, a speeding passenger bus which was also heading in the same direction crushed him under the front wheels.

The scooter and body which went under the front wheels of the bus got entangled in such a way that the fire brigade had to be summoned to cut the front part of the bus out to extract the scooter and the body of youth.  “The youth’s body and his vehicle got entangled under the wheels. The body and scooter had to be extricated by firemen from the Vasco fire station,” said the sources adding that “The driver and the conductor fled. However, later the driver surrendered before Vasco police but the conductor is still absconding.”

During the investigation, it was revealed that the driver had allowed the conductor to take on the wheels from Birla to Titan junction and back to Birla without possessing a proper license to drive passenger buses. Later, of course, the driver took charge of the vehicle at Zorint in Zuarinagar. The cops have written to the RTO to suspend the permit of the vehicle and cancel the driver’s license,” said PI Nolasco Raposo. (Source)
